Engagement Session Preparation Tips!

Engagement shoots are such a great way for us to get to know each other before the wedding day. It gives you a chance to get comfortable in front of the camera and to enjoy yourselves. And at the end of it, you have a great set of photos to look back on!

Here are some great tips to help you prepare and get the most out of your engagement session.

Location- is there somewhere meaningful to you both? Perhaps where you went on your first date or a favourite place you enjoy together regularly. Would you like a rural feel to your shoot? Or perhaps something more urban or even a beach side/woodland adventure?

Time of year- this will obviously affect the clothes you will wear for the shoot and the feel of the overall shoot. Remember though, you can get some awesome shots huddled under an umbrella or in the frosty months. Autumn is also a great time of year to photograph with all the colours around.

Clothes- Obviously this is weather and location dependent, make sure you wear something suitable to the chosen location- you don't want it to look unnatural. Always wear something that is 'you', but perhaps use this occasion to make a little more effort than usual. You'll love your images much more if you feel comfortable in what you're wearing and feel good about yourself. In terms of colours- coordinate but don't match! You don't want to clash with each other, opt for colours that compliment each other, muted colours are great and create a soft and romantic feel. Always avoid busy colours and big slogans as this can be distracting in the images.

Hair and Make-up- one for the ladies...treat yourself! This is a great opportunity to make good use of your hair and make-up trial before the wedding day.

Pets- You are more than welcome to bring along your beloved pets! It is helpful if you bring along a lead, some water and favorite treats as well.

Handbags- You don't want to end up carrying your bag in every photo, so please leave your handbag at home or locked away securely in the car. Guys, please remove wallets or cell phones from your pockets as well as sunglasses. I’m happy to carry keys, mobile phones and anything needed for touch ups for you during the session.

Once you actually arrive at the shoot, relax and enjoy yourself! This is where I work my magic! Don't worry about how to 'pose' or what to do. I work in a very laid back manner and I want you to enjoy the experience and have fun with each other. I will guide you through the shoot gently to ensure you're looking great and to get the best shots of you both. A great engagement session will show the connection that brought you together in your photos.

Hopefully this helps, but if you have any more questions regarding your engagement session, just give me a shout!
